High school again. Seriously?
Rosalie sighed, closing her locker with a soft click of her tongue. It was tedious, learning the exact same things again and again, having to deal with teachers whose IQs were lower than hers. It was more frustrating than trying to speak to Edward when he was being particularly broody. The blond vampire pulled her coat around her, protecting her cashmere blouse from the rain as she crossed the courtyard into the lunchroom.
It wasn't raining heavily, but enough for Rosalie to know that those thick gray clouds would cling to the sky until, at least, sundown. But she was sure the topic would come up during recess anyway, Alice would be sure to warn them if there was any danger in sight. Rose had gotten to the cafeteria later than most other students and so the lunch line was free of activity. She whipped through the line quickly, placing a granola bar and a tub of yogurt onto her tray. It looked ridiculous, for a tray that large to carry only two small things. So Rose added a bottle of water and paid of her 'lunch'.

Of course. Here was Renesmee, going through high school for the very first time. Though she had a rather different take than her Aunt Rosalie on high school, Nessie still found it repetitive and actually quite boring. Her mother and father had taught her just about everything she knew. The main reason they stuck her here was because of the food. Hence, the tray of disgusting looking Chinese food and a carton of sickeningly cold chocolate milk.
Yes, Nessie wasn't very fond of human food. But she braved eating it anyway - it gave her nourishment even if it didn't taste very good. She'd rather be drinking blood, but nobody would be going on any hunting trip for another few days or so. Renesmee, feeling disgusted by the food in front of her, forced herself to swallow a bite of what had read on the lunch tablet to be sweet and sour chicken. As all human food did, it tasted interesting. But it was still think and gross.
That was when her Aunt Rosalie came walking towards her. She was the first one, almost always, to arrive at the table. Aunt Rose was one of her favorite aunts, even though she didn't really have a specific favorite. "Hi, Auntie Rose!" she greeted her cheerfully, completely ignoring the food on her plate. Any excuse not to eat this stuff was good with Nessie.

Rose smiled at her niece as she greeted her, but hoped that no one had heard Renesmee refer to her as an 'aunt'. But as the blond vampire sat down and glanced around, no one even looked up. Good. They were learning then. When the Cullens first came to Alterra, every single time any one of them went out in public, they attracted the attention of the entire town. Rose didn't mind it, in fact, once the 'who the hell are you' gazes ceased, they were replaced by looks of admiration and awe. Those were the kinds she appreciated.
"Renesmee," Rose greeted in a low voice. Her dark gold eyes lowered to her niece's tray. Poor girl. If she had been Rosalie's child, she would have whatever she wanted. But Bella and Edward were adamant that the girl eat human food as well as hunt with the rest of the family - sometimes. The corner of her lip lifted in a kind smirk. She picked up her bottle of water by the lid and placed it in front of the hybrid. "Here, rehydrate." The girl never drank enough water, Rosalie thought.

Renesmee smiled at her aunt, though within a split second of her greeting, she realized her mistake. The ploy was that they were all adopted brothers and sisters. No humans would understand if they had heard her call Rosalie 'Auntie'. Some of them might ask questions, and then they'd have to leave. And then it'd be all Nessie's fault. She shrank in her seat, but her panic wasn't called for. Nobody had noticed. She could see and hear that in the cafeteria around her. Even though she was half vampire, Nessie wasn't bothered at all, really, by the scents of human blood. Human food and animal blood were what kept her strong, and so Renesmee only felt a little bit of longing when she caught the scent of human blood.
Rosalie put a bottle of water in front of her and told her to drink. Nessie wrinkled her nose, but she listened to her aunt almost all the time anyway. She didn't like the feeling of water going down her throat, but all of her family told her that it was 'healthy'. She took the bottle of water as instructed and took a good drink of it. A quarter of it was gone before Nessie put it back on the table in disdain. "That stuff is disgusting," she complained. "Why do I have to drink it?" Her voice turned into an unsatisfied grumbling. Nessie normally didn't complain, but human food put her into a natural less-than-good mood.

Rosalie smiled in good humour, though she was sure her lips looked more like a smirk. Everything about Renesmee fascinated her. The very fact that she could survive on human food but only thirsted for blood was so far from anything Rose once knew. It was just something else that made her niece special.
"If Bella and Edward were here, they would make you eat the rest of that as well," Rose added, pointing to the strange gooey mix that filled Renesmee's tray. But she made no further point to urge her to eat more. If Nessie was still hungry, Rose would take her hunting after school. The blond had fed a week ago and wouldn't need to do so again for another few days, but hunting was never a bad idea. They could go into the mountains for a few hours. But Rose was sure Jacob would want to come as well - that dog never left Nessie alone.

Nessie 'huffed' in disdain, glaring at the food on her tray as if it were the food's fault that she was put to endure this sickening lunch period. Nobody else in her family had to do this. Although, she had to admit, the werewolves of the family ate. Jacob insisted on her eating too - but he could actually eat the food without feeling like you had to throw up every time you ate it. And besides, nothing was as good as a cougar or a bear right after school. Or a cup of O + from Grandpa Carlisle. That was her favorite treat, but she didn't get it that much anymore. Considering as most of her family constantly insisted that she should be drinking animal's blood instead.
"Bella and Edward always make me eat everything," Renesmee sighed. She had such trouble not calling them Mom and Dad. Just like she had trouble calling her aunt 'Rosalie' instead of 'Auntie'. "Food doesn't fill me up as good as hunting always does. I hate lunch-time." But, braving the gross-ness, Nessie hesitantly took a forkful of her lunch and shoved it in her mouth. She swallowed it almost as soon as she touched her tongue to it. Ugh. It was so thick and glumpy and slimy. She hated it.
